Curbside Waste Collection

Exciting News! New curbside waste collection begins November 23, 2026.

The Municipality is pleased to announce that curbside collection services will begin under a new in-house operation starting November 23, 2026. Residents can continue to expect reliable and efficient collection services as we make this transition.

Similar to current collection practices, residents are reminded of the following:

  • Place your garbage out by 7:30am on your scheduled collection day
  • Ensure bags weigh 22kg (50 lb) or less
  • Comply with the two bag limit
  • Raise the indicator on your bear-proof bin to ensure collection

Now through November 22, 2026

Collection remains the same

Now through November 22, 2026, curbside waste and recycling collection will continue weekly. To ensure materials are collected, residents must have their items at the curb by 8:00 a.m. on Monday.

Curbside collection will occur on all statutory holidays.

Frequently Asked Questions

Starting November 23, 2026, garbage collection will be provided directly by the Municipality instead of Waste Management.

Waste Management, the Municipality’s current collection contractor, has advised that it intends to transition to an automated cart-based collection system. Given that the carts are not bear-resistant, staff and Council determined that this collection system was not the best fit for the Municipality.

Bringing garbage collection in-house will allow the Municipality to provide a service that better meets the needs of our community.

The transition to in-house garbage collection will take place on November 23, 2026.

Residents should continue to follow their current garbage schedule until the transition date.

Please check your collection schedule to confirm your garbage collection day and make sure your garbage is placed at the curb on the correct day.

Please use our collection map to search for your address and confirm your collection day.

Yes. The only days when garbage collection will not occur are Christmas Day and New Year's Day. A notice will be provided to residents affected by these holidays, outlining the alternate collection schedule for those weeks.

Waste Management has not communicated any changes to collection at this time.

Recycling is managed through the province’s recycling program and will continue to be collected by Waste management for the time being.

Residents should continue to follow their existing recycling collection schedule, unless Waste Management directly communicates otherwise.

Residents can expect more reliable garbage collection service for our community. Having the service managed directly by the Municipality allows us to communicate more effectively and respond more efficiently to collection concerns.

Our goal is to provide dependable service that residents can count on.

If there is a delay, missed collection, weather-related issue, or other unforeseen problem, we will work to provide residents with timely information and a clear plan for when collection will take place.

Residents can expect to find collection updates on social media and our website.

No. The Municipality will continue with manual collection. There are no plans to transition to a cart system at this time.
