The Municipality offers several waste diversion and recycling programs to residents. These initiatives are provided at all three Waste Disposal Sites, unless otherwise stated.

Appliances containing Freon must be handled separately and cannot be disposed of with regular waste. Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers are examples.
The tipping fee for freon units is $35.00 per unit, this includes the cost of having a technician come and remove the freon prior to being transported.
Through the Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA), the Municipality offers waste electrical and electronics equipment recycling free of charge.
Accepted items include:
The County of Bruce hosts Household Hazardous and Special Waste Collection events free of charge for residents of Bruce County.
Commercial, agricultural and industrial wastes, PCBs, ammunitions and flares will not be accepted. Containers with a volume of 30 litres or less will be accepted; however, containers will not be emptied and returned.
Attendees must remain in their vehicle with waste materials in their open trunk only for unloading.
For more information, including a list of accepted materials, please visit Bruce County's Hazardous Waste Collection Events page.
In 2012, the Municipality implemented a program to divert mattresses from its Waste Disposal Sites. While there is still a cost associated with mattress disposal, the $25.00 per-unit tipping fee covers transportation to a specialized facility where mattresses are dismantled to recover raw materials. These materials—including cotton, polyester, felt, wood, and metal—are then sent to various companies for recycling and reuse, giving them a second life.
Give bulky Styrofoam a second chance at reuse.
Residents may recycle bulky Styrofoam at free of charge through the Municipality’s partnership with Second Wind Recycling. Accepted material must be clean, dry, and rigid, such as protective packaging from electronics and appliances.
Dirty Styrofoam, packing peanuts, black Styrofoam, and food or take-out containers are not accepted.
Through the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (RPRA), the Municipality is registered as a collector of both on-road and off-road tires. This program is available to residents at free of charge for tires removed from rims.
Please note that fees apply for tires left on rims:
Small tire on rim: $8.00
Large truck tire on rim: $10.00
Heavy truck tire on rim: $24.00
Residents are encouraged to visit the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority's website to find additional free tire drop-off locations, which typically include car dealerships, vehicle repair shops, and tire retailers.
To support a culture of waste reduction, reuse, and community sharing, reuse buildings have been established at each Waste Disposal Site. These buildings provide residents with an opportunity to drop off items that are still in good, usable condition for others to take and reuse, helping to extend the life of materials and reduce the amount of waste sent to disposal. Acceptance of items is at the discretion of the Site Attendant to ensure safety, cleanliness, and suitability for reuse.
Payment Methods
The following payment options apply to all three Waste Disposal Sites:
Please note that the above are preferred methods of payment. Cash will not be accepted.
