Zoning & Planning

Land Use Planning

The Comprehensive Zoning By-law (By-law 2002-54, as amended), manages land use within the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula. It states how land can be used, standards for use, and location and use of buildings and structures.

Planning measures such as minor variance, consent, zoning amendment and official plan amendment applications are reviewed and processed by the Bruce County Planning and Development Office.

Development Control (DC)

Please be advised properties with the zoning of 'Development Control' (DC) are not included within the Comprehensive Zoning By-law (By-law 2002-54, as amended). A property with such zoning is under the jurisdiction of the Niagara Escarpment Commission (NEC) and would require a development permit, prior to any development of said property.

Once a permit is obtained through the Niagara Escarpment Commission, it should be noted that a building permit will be required through the Building Department as well, to confirm compliance with Ontario Building Code (OBC) and other applicable law.

Zoning & Septic Certificates

Zoning and septic certificates are available by request from the Building Department. To determine the regular and rush fee (48-hour service), please refer to the Fees and Charges By-law.
