POSITION: Harbour Master Assistant (Union)

LOCATION(s): Tobermory Harbour

DEPARTMENT: Facilities, Parks and Recreation

REPORTS TO: Harbour Master

SUMMARY: Fulfills the duties as described below

PURPOSE: To assist the Harbour Master with supervision of all land and water areas of the harbour to ensure the safe conduct and enhanced appearance of the harbour, marina and its associated operations.

RATE: $23.28 per hour start rate as of January 1, 2024 (as per Ontario Public Service Employees Union Local 266 Collective Agreement, January 1, 2023 – December 31, 2025)

Employment Timeframe: May to October – Approximate Timeframe

Duties:

  • Carry out daily and seasonal harbour operations such as opening/closing, maintenance and upkeep of all buildings, including public washrooms, showers and laundry, and docking and boat launch areas. Note: Lion’ Head Marina includes operation and maintenance of campground facilities.
  • Operate POS and cash register and reconciles monies when as
  • Sales of related services and supplies.
  • Fuel boats and septic pump-outs.
  • Assist boaters with docking ensuring that boats are secured satisfactorily.
  • Identify infractions and issues and advise supervisor immediately.
  • Greet and welcome guests and boaters.
  • Address inquiries and provide information when necessary.
  • Carry out circle check inspections of harbour area, buildings and docks.
  • Maintain grounds as required (i.e. grass cutting, weeding, raking, planting, flower bed maintenance, watering, fertilizing, etc.).
  • Sweep harbour area.
  • Collect and Remove garbage/recycling.
  • Inspects harbour to identify berthing and other issues for corrective action.
  • Maintains radio communications with regards to navigation within the harbour limit.
  • Assist with seasonal dock installations and minor dock repairs when required.

Other:

  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and training as required.
  • Complies with all policies and procedures of the Occupational Health & Safety Act of Ontario.

HOURS OF WORK:
  • Seasonal Position, minimum 35 hours work week, irregular shifts including evenings, weekends and Stat holidays.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Treasurer, The Deputy Treasurer administers the financial services, programs, policies and procedures for the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula fulfilling all statutory requirements of the Deputy Treasurer as outlined in the Municipal Act, 2001 and performs the duties of the Treasurer in their absence. The Deputy Treasurer prepares corporate and departmental Financial Reports, assists in the co-ordination and preparation of the annual Budget, provides financial guidance and advice to Department Managers and staff, provides supervision and guidance to financial staff of the department, administers utilities and fees rates setting and is responsible for maintaining detailed information on Tangible Capital assets and for supporting the ongoing development and updating of the corporate Asset Management Plan.

This position will monitor and implement policies and procedures for the collection of revenue generation programs such as; Municipal Accommodation Tax, Short Term Accommodation, Parking, and Administrative Fines.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in business administration, commerce, accounting, or similar/related discipline.
  • Certified Professional Accounting designation (CPA).
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience working in a finance related environment.
  • Experience working in a municipal environment is an asset.
  • Experience working with internal and external stakeholders in a political environment.

 Salary: $37.09-$42.63 (2023)

Deputy Treasurer Job Description  Apply Now!

Duties:
▪ Assist the Municipality/Museum Committee with the general operations of the museum and related programming including daily opening/closing during schedule operating hours.
▪ Assist the Municipality/Manager of Parks and Facilities with development, implementation and facilitation of community recreation related programs directly or through contractors.
▪ Responsible for the planning, development and execution of a variety of museum and recreation programs.
▪ Increase public awareness of local Heritage assets and recreation opportunities in the community.
▪ Coordinate scheduling and orientation of volunteer and summer student support.
▪ Receive artifacts or items of interest donated by patrons, catalogue and process materials using museum database (Past Perfect).
▪ Ensure that the exhibits are displayed in the manner so accustomed, and that the displays be maintained, cleaned regularly, refreshed and rotated per annual work plan.

Parks and Facilities Assistant (Student) Job Description

Position: Public Works/GIS Assistant

Location: NBP Municipal Office/Various locations

Department: Public Works

Reports To: Public Works Manager

Purpose:  To assist the Public Works Department

  • Assist with file maintenance and record keeping
  • Assist with marketing and promotion of waste/recycling collection program
  • Assist at Waste Disposal Sites with various duties on occasion

Administrative Assistant - Treasury (Student) Job Description

Position: Museum Archives Programming Assistant (Student)

Location: St. Edmunds Museum - Tobermory

Department: Parks & Facilities

Reports to: Manager of Parks and Facilities or designate

Purpose: The student will work full-time for 16 weeks at the St. Edmunds Bruce Peninsula Museum in Tobermory. Work will be primarily devoted to the projects and tasks of collection management and participation in a more general capacity through the daily activities and functions of the operation of the Museum as a whole, including guide activities, programs, special exhibits and events.

Rate: $18.00 per hour

Duties:

1. Collection Development Museum and Archives

  • Database work with cataloging system, entering data from cataloguing sheets, accessioning, researching, indexing records and generally processing materials and transferring
  • Special collections work on donated collections.
  • Photographing, scanning, and digitizing new and unlisted artifacts.
  • Assisting in collections management with completion of Finding Aids materials.
  • Collection maintenance and cleaning artifacts in accordance with museum standards.
  • Research collection items for better labelling, scan code descriptions.
  • Preparing labels and signage for museum objects.
  • Support exhibit rotation and borrowed exhibit process with other museums.

2.General Museum Operations and Visitor Services

  • Operation of POS system.
  • Clerical and operational support, including front desk (visitor directions, etc.), office/archives reception, morning gallery opening (lights, audio-visual components, activity set-up, etc.).
  • Support Docent (volunteer) recruitment.
  • Guide training, along with museum staff.
  • Guide experience, leading tours through the collection, exhibits, grounds, exterior exhibits and log cabins.
  • Use of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, email features to support program/event promotion, social media, and office work.

3. Programming and Events

  • Assisting with special event coordination.
  • Program development and delivery as part of event team
  • Leading hands-on activities with visitors during events/programs

4. Public Relations and Marketing

  • Support role in Marketing strategy development via social media – Instagram, Facebook
  • Marketing posters -design and distribution to local points and using email distribution lists.
  • Newspaper article drafting reporting on events/programs,
  • News release draft writing and distribution

5. Additional Duties:

  • Regular attendance at staff/volunteer meetings held during shifts.

PURPOSE: To assist the Museum Committee with the setup and operation of the St. Edmunds Bruce Peninsula Museum for the visiting public to enjoy and discover the past and present history of the area.

DUTIES:

  • Assist the Museum Union Attendant, Municipality/Museum Committee and volunteers with the general day to day operations of the museum.
  • Opening/closing during scheduled hours of operation.
  • Provides excellent customer service to the visitors and public in an informative and welcoming manner.
  • Communicating and promoting information on Museum, contents and the history of the area.

  • 37.5 hours per week inclusive of days and weekends as required.

LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Approximately a ten (10) week period – last of week June to Labour Day Weekend.
