The Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula currently has the following employment opportunities available.

The Municipality is currently seeking a full-time Deputy Chief Building Official/Building Inspector due to an internal promotion. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Chief Building Official.

Primary Responsibilities

·         Provides front-line support by responding to general public and contractor inquiries via phone and at the service counter, acting as backup for customer service.

·         Reviews building permit applications, construction drawings, and site plans to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, including the Ontario Building Code, Building Code Act, and municipal Zoning By-laws.

·         Assists applicants throughout the building permit process, offering guidance to ensure applications meet all relevant legal and regulatory requirements.

·         Offers recommendations and technical support to applicants to help achieve compliance with the Ontario Building Code, Building Code Act, and other applicable laws.

·         Prepares building permits in accordance with legislative requirements and under the direction of the Chief Building Official.

·         Conducts inspections on buildings and on-site sewage systems as authorized by issued building permits, ensuring compliance with the Ontario Building Code.

·         Maintains detailed and accurate records of all inspections and site visits in accordance with departmental procedures and best practices.

·         Prepares Orders to Comply and other enforcement documentation under the Ontario Building Code and Building Code Act as necessary.

·         Provides clear and accurate information regarding applicable by-laws, acts, and regulations relevant to the Building Department’s operations.

·         Investigates and responds to potential violations of the Building Code, escalating issues to the Chief Building Official as appropriate and preparing related correspondence and documentation.

·         Assists with the coordination and scheduling of inspections, including assigning inspection tasks to self and other Building Department staff.

·         Performs additional duties and special assignments as delegated by the Chief Building Official.

·         Acts in the capacity of the Chief Building Official during their absence or when delegated authority is required.

·         Attends Council, Committee, Planning, Development and other meetings, as required.

·         Attends conferences, seminars, and meetings, reads documents and newsletters to keep abreast of current legislation.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications

·         Post-secondary diploma in a related field such as Building Sciences, Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a comparable discipline.

·         Certified Building Code Official (CBCO) designation through the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA), or actively working toward certification

·         Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in a municipal building or by-law enforcement environment.

·         Strong technical knowledge in areas such as structural systems, HVAC, on-site sewage systems, plumbing, water systems, fire protection, and municipal by-laws.

·         Solid understanding of applicable legislation, including the Ontario Building Code, Building Code Act, Municipal Act, Planning Act, Nutrient Management Act, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

·         Proficiency in using computer applications and permitting software relevant to building inspection and records management.

·         Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to interact professionally and tactfully with the public, contractors, and colleagues.

·         Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence.

As our Municipality continues to grow, we are currently seeking a full-time, permanent Public Works Engineering Technician to fill this newly created position. The successful candidate will report to the Public Works Manager and play a key role in supporting municipal infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:

· Oversee municipal construction projects, making sure they adhere to local requirements and Ontario Provincial Standards.

· Assist with the planning and coordination of capital projects, such as drainage systems, culverts, bridges, and roadways.

· Monitor building sites ensure that schedules, spending limits, safety procedures, and quality standards are being met.

· Assist with waste management while ensuring environmental laws are followed.

· Contribute to asset management initiatives, including updating records and supporting the Asset Management Plan.

· Create contract documentation, cost estimates, and technical reports.

· Assist in the development of tenders and the evaluation of proposals for municipal projects.

· Answer questions from the general public effectively and professionally.

· Encourage a culture of safety in all operations.

Qualifications:

· A post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field.

· Certification or eligible for certification OACETT (C.E.T.), is considered an asset.

· Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role.

· Strong knowledge of Ontario Provincial Standards (OPS), Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM), and relevant legislation.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, GIS applications, and asset management software.

· Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively

· Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle.

· First Aid/CPR is considered an asset.

Annual Salary Range:  $70,185.02- $80,671.00

The Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula is seeking a dedicated Public Works Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. This full-time unionized position plays a vital role in maintaining roads, sidewalks, waste management sites, and other municipal infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain a variety of heavy equipment (grader, snowplow, excavator, landfill compactor, etc.)
  • Perform road construction and maintenance, snow and ice control, and emergency response
  • Conduct waste site operations including site inspections, equipment operation, and general site upkeep
  • Maintain equipment and ensure proper safety protocols
  • Communicate professionally with coworkers and the public

Qualifications:

  • Valid DZ driver’s license (AZ preferred) and a clean driving record
  • Secondary school diploma
  • Strong knowledge of road maintenance and snow removal equipment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations

Working Conditions:

  • Minimum 80 hours per two-week period; may include weekends and on-call shifts
  • Outdoor work in various weather conditions
  • Physically demanding with regular lifting

Compensation:
As per the current union contract.
