Short-term Accommodation Operator Checklist

Ensure your Licence is valid

Know Your Licence Expiry Date
Please ensure you know your licence expiration date. You can find this in your Cloudpermit workspace or by contacting the Licensing Issuer.

Renewing Your Licence
STA licences are valid for one (1) year from the date of issuance.

To renew your licence, upload the following documents to your existing Cloudpermit workspace:

  • Updated insurance policy
  • Proof of septic inspection completed within the last three (3) years

Once the documents are uploaded, please notify the Licensing Issuer through Cloudpermit. A Step-by-Step STA Renewal Guidebook is available to assist with the online renewal process.

Triennial Reinspections
Licensed STAs are required to undergo a reinspection every three (3) years. This will be scheduled by the Licensing Issuer during your third-year renewal, subject to inspector availability.

Posting Your STA Licence Number
Your valid STA Licence Number must be included in all online rental listings so renters and the Municipality can verify that the property is licensed.

Know and Enforce your Occupancy Limit

In accordance with Ontario Building Code Provision 9.9.1.3, the occupancy limit for a Short-Term Accommodation in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula is two (2) persons per approved bedroom.

Properties with a valid Class A or B licence may permit up to two (2) additional children aged twelve (12) and under, provided sufficient beds are available. Couches, pull-out couches, and futons are not permitted as beds.

To confirm the occupancy limit for your property, please contact the Licensing Issuer by email.

Implement Effective Waste and Recycling Practices

If you or your guests will be leaving before Monday morning, please keep all garbage securely contained and do not place it in the designated bear bin or at the roadside until Monday morning. This helps avoid attracting wildlife. Alternatively, waste and recycling can be taken to a municipal landfill — use the button below to check landfill hours.

Touch base with your Property Manager/ Responsible Person

Retaining a Property Manager/Responsible Person is required under the STA Licensing Program.

A Property Manager/Responsible Person is the owner, an individual (18 years or older), or a company appointed by the owner to act on their behalf and ensure the Short-Term Accommodation operates in compliance with the By-law, licence conditions, and applicable laws. This individual or company must reside within one hour of the property and be available to attend the site at any time.

If your listed Property Manager/Responsible Person no longer represents the property, contact the Licensing Issuer immediately to update your profile with the new representative’s name, contact information, and consent.

Driveway Sign

Starting May 26, 2025, all Short-term Accommodations must clearly display the contact information for their Property Manager or Responsible Person at the end of the rental’s driveway. This ensures easy access to key contact details and helps keep things running smoothly for everyone.

Ensure guests are informed of Municipal Guidelines
