Expansion of the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT)

In 2021, the Municipality implemented a Short-Term Accommodation (STA) By-law to regulate and license short-term rental properties. Licensed STA’s are required to charge a 4% Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) on rentals of less than 30 days.

Over the past year, Council has considered expansion of the Municipal Accommodation Tax. Draft By-law 2024-04 was presented to Council on December 11, 2023. Under the expanded program, hotels, motels, hostels, campgrounds, and bed and breakfast establishments would be included.

Council deferred a decision on expansion of the program to allow for more public consultation. Council welcomes your input and suggestions regarding the MAT program.
