Roadside Grass Cutting

Roadside Grass Cutting

Municipal roadside grass cutting is part of the Municipality’s maintenance program. Roadside cutting is conducted within the municipal road allowance and is undertaken to enhance the appearance of the roadway, control weeds, improve sight lines for drivers, wildlife safety, pedestrian wellbeing and assists with controlling ticks.  In addition, there are various factors to consider for roadside grass cutting, for example:

  • increase visibility along shoulders of road
  • increase visibility of road side signage
  • the need for site lines at intersections and where driveways/entrances enter onto a road
  • control noxious weeds and invasive species
  • vegetation can obstruct drainage ditches which in turn causes flooding
  • can lead to deterioration of the road if left uncontrolled, and
  • assists with bushes growing into large trees that become fixed objects, if struck.
