 Waste Management Equipment Operator
POSITION: Waste Management Equipment Operator

LOCATION: Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
REPORTS TO: Lead Hand/Operations Supervisor/Assistant Manager/Manager
SUMMARY: Fulfills the duties as described below


POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Public Works – Level 1 (Waste Management Equipment Operator) is to perform the duties of a heavy equipment operator for the Municipal Waste Management Program.
  • Reporting location will be at the following locations, depending on the work required:

o Eastnor Shop, 2942 Highway 6
o Lindsay Shop, 56 Lindsay Road 5
o St. Edmunds Shop, 7405 Highway 6
o Eastnor Waste Disposal Site, 1252 West Road
o Lindsay Waste Disposal Site, 627 Ira Lake Road
o St. Edmunds Waste Disposal Site, 71 McArthur Road
o Construction sites, varied


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Routine site inspections of the Municipal Recycling Facilities and Waste Disposal Sites.
  • Responds to general inquiries, agency requests for comment and dealing with complaints.
  • Knowledge of the Certificate of Approval/Environmental Compliance Approval for the Municipal Waste Disposal Sites.
  • Responsible for horizontal and vertical control of the Municipal Waste Disposal Sites.
  • Follows engineering recommendations made in the Annual Monitoring Reports.
  • Performs duties of a Waste Disposal Site Attendant, when required.
  • Provides written reports and recommendations regarding the waste management operation and private contractors, when requested.
  • Operates equipment for compaction, covering and general site grading.
  • Operation of snow removal equipment.
  • Attends courses required for the performance of duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

HUMAN RESOURCES:

  • Works under the direct supervision of the Manager of Public Works, Assistant Manager to Public Works, Public Works Supervisor and Lead Hand.
  • Works independently and is required to assist in assigning priorities to duties to accomplish job requirements.
  • Assists with supervision of part-time and casual employees in the Department.

 

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

The position specifications outlined below are intended as a guideline only. In some cases, an individual may have sufficient related experience at an appropriate level to offset the lack of formal education. Therefore, the educational and related experience requirements should be assessed simultaneously to ensure all qualified candidate are considered.


Education and Related Experience

  • Valid Ontario Driver’s Class A Licence
  • Clean Driving Record
  • General knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Computer knowledge would be an asset
  • Knowledge in establishing and following grade control
  • Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the general public, contractors and professionals in the waste management industry
  • Proficiency in operation and maintenance of construction equipment
  • Secondary school diploma
  • Knowledge of the operation of snow removal equipment

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Hours of work – minimum of 80 hours over a two (2) week period. The work week for this position may include Saturday and Sunday, with scheduled days off during the week.
  • Works outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Exposed to fumes, noise and odor.

 

PAY RATE:

  • As per Union Contract

 Records Management/Administrative Assistant (Part-Time 18 month contract)
Purpose of This Position

Reporting to the Clerk, the Records Management/ Administrative Clerk provides support with administering all records management functions, including the management and administration of corporate records, development and implementation of corporate wide content management systems and workflows; development, creation, maintenance, and input within the digital records management system.


Major Responsibilities
• Collaborates and provides administration support and guidance to the organization;
• Assists the Clerk with maintaining and managing the filing system for both electronic and paper records in accordance with the records retention by-law;
• Maintains thorough knowledge of the staffing processes and a high-level understanding of the new Corporation’s records management system, policies and procedures;
• Proofread documents, editing and formatting as required;
• Responsible for ensuring all documents published are AODA compliant, if required;
• Performs all administrative support services which includes but not limited to the production of all forms, correspondence, reports, statements and presentation materials;
• Assists in data collection for annual reporting (i.e. Accessibility);
• Provides support corporate wide for municipal projects with respect to corporate and department initiatives and goals;
• Provides administrative support in the preparation and administration of municipal reports and correspondence;
• Assist municipal staff with various document searches and document requests.

Education
Must have an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma plus one (1) year of post-secondary education from a Community College in Office, Business or Public Administration, or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalencies.


Experience
1 year of administrative experience. Municipal experience preferred.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office
• Carries out other related duties as assigned;
• Customer service
• Complies with all health and safety practices and AODA standards for all


Working Conditions
• Hours of work – 3 days a week with possible more
