Deputy Treasurer - Closing June 9, 2023

The Municipality is currently seeking a full-time, permanent Deputy Treasurer. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Treasurer. This position will have the ability to have a flexible work arrangement.

As our Deputy Treasurer, you will:

  • Develop and maintain accounting and reporting policies and practices to ensure accurate and consistent recording and reporting of financial transactions;
  • Provide timely and accurate financial information and supporting documentation, as required, for Council, external auditors, and external funding agencies;
  • Work cross-departmentally to prepare, consolidate, and monitor the annual capital and operating budgets for the municipal and service rate budgets;
  • Support the development, maintenance, and continual improvement of long-term financial plans including multi-year capital expenditure and funding plans and the Asset Management Plan;
  • Develop, prepare, and update budget supporting documents for use by Municipal Departments; and
  • Provide supervision, guidance, direction, leadership, and control to staff in the Finance Department.

You have:

  • A post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline combined with at least five (5) years’ experience in the municipal environment;
  • Certified Professional Accounting designation, CPA, is considered an asset;
  • Experience working in a municipal environment is considered an asset;
  • Relevant knowledge in financial, accounting and auditing principles and practices, applicable legislation/regulatory standards, budget formulation and local government functions and responsibilities; and
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, critical thinking and collaboration skills.

Seasonal Cemetery Lawn Maintenance and General Repairs

Position Summary

Assist the Municipality in achieving high performance through best practices at the four Municipal Cemeteries and over areas if required.

This position is responsible for assisting with grass cutting and trimming maintenance in the cemeteries. Also ensure there is no tree and shrub obstruction to monuments. To perform various operations including grounds maintenance, basic carpentry, turf maintenance on sunken grave with instruction from the Cemetery Manager, tree and bush trimming, and other duties as assigned.

Efficiently assist in maintaining the cemetery grounds and maintenance of buildings and fences throughout the cemeteries.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Inspect the Cemetery buildings and grounds to determine functionality, detect malfunctions and needed repairs while making notes and recommendations any requirements to the Clerk.

  • Performs minor facility maintenance (e.g., fence painting, minor carpentry, etc.).
  • Ensure grass is cut and all trimming is completed weekly and more often in the growing season.
  • All monuments will be trimmed around, and any broken monuments will be reported to the Clerk.
  • All garbage will be taken to the closest landfill site and the interior of the buildings will be kept in neat conditions.
  • Fresh flower arrangements will be disposed two days after the interment occurs.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on all equipment, and record.
  • Ensure all municipal equipment and apparatus are kept in a clean, safe state free of litter and debris, and report any unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
  • Operate equipment and perform general landscaping maintenance at the Cemeteries.
  • Bush and tree trimming may be required.
  • Monitor and maintain Cemeteries facilities and equipment including site inspections.
  • Operation of equipment including lawn mower, chain saw, grass trimmers and other small tools.
  • Assist with monument maintenance with regards to overgrown shrubs, etc.
  • Preparation and securement of area for excavation and trenching burials so public is always safe if visiting the cemeteries.
  • Liaise with the Cemetery Manager as well as municipal staff with regards to cemetery matters.
  • Promotes a high standard of customer service to the public as well as to all staff members.
  • Comply with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating
  • guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Performs other duties as required in other departments.

Job Details

Hours of Work: Seasonal Position from April 15 to October 15 based on 35 hours per week

Driver’s License Required: Yes

Class: G or G2

Education and Experience:

  • Requires high school graduation or equivalent
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Proven skill and ability required to perform general repairs and maintenance
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures for the safety of patrons including Standard First Aid, CPR C & AED

Wage:

  • $21.69/hour
