The Public Works Department plans and directs the construction and maintenance of Municipal roads, bridges, culverts, streetlights, civic address numbers, Municipal drains and other infrastructure.

The Municipality has approximately 470 kilometres of road and 4,905 metres of sidewalk.

County Roads

Bruce County Roads 9 and 29 provide access throughout the Municipality.

For information on the maintenance of these roads, you can call (519) 881-2400 or Bruce County Highways Department Website.

Provincial Highway

Highway 6 runs north and south through the Municipality.

The Ministry of Transportation is responsible for maintenance including snow removal on the highway.

Highway conditions

Snow removal

The Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula is responsible for road maintenance during winter months to ensure the safety of all our residents. Our staff is responsible for plowing snow and applying sand or salt for icy conditions on Municipal roads and parking lots and sidewalks.

The Municipality's winter maintenance period starts on October 15 and ends April 15 each year. Winter maintenance activities are carried out as per Ontario Regulation 239/02 and our Winter Control Handbook.

Mailboxes

The Municipality's policy on mailbox location, post size and replacement can be found within By-Law 2014-28. The By-Law also defines replacement of damaged mailboxes.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your mailbox is visible to all maintenance vehicles, including proper snow removal and brushing.

Protect your mailbox! If you do not use your mailbox during the winter, remove it including the post.
